Meet with Katie Batten!
Schedule an appointment with Katie Batten, Assistant Director of Graduate Admissions
Katie Batten (she/her) is an artist and educator based in the Midwest, her studio practice spans across painting, drawing, ceramics and sculpture. Within her work, Batten circles around ideas of longing and yearning, with a sensitive and tender approach to materials. She tinkers with these ideas through metaphorical depictions like swans and flowers, imagery that is often entangled in the language of ballet, opera, and theater.Alongside her studio work, she is also invested in curatorial projects, public art, and project management. In 2012, she received a BFA from the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design and in 2018, graduated with an MFA in Painting from the Tyler School of Art (Temple University). Batten’s work has been exhibited across the country with a recent emphasis on engaging with midwestern and artist-run spaces. Recent exhibitions include 50 Paintings: Moreover curated by Michelle Grabner at the Green Gallery and a two-person show at Stop Gap Projects.
